O’Brien Street Practice

At O’Brien Street Practice, we foster health in human diversity and offer good medicine to everyone, without judgement.

Providing patient care and disease control

Healthcare professionals at the O’Brien Street Practice provide a range of services, primarily related to sexual health and HIV, including general practice, nursing, and consulting medical and allied health specialists.

Established in 1991, O’Brien Street has been run as a joint collaboration with SA Health since 2005.

Monkeypox vaccines

The clinic now provides the Monkeypox vaccination to existing patients. SA Health is working closely with the local community to help combat the global Monkeypox outbreak, provide up-to-date information and roll out vaccines to those most at risk. Services at the O’Brien Street Practice are provided by staff employed directly by Central Adelaide Local Health Network and other independent health professionals.

Rainbow Tick Accreditation

We are now working towards achieving Rainbow Tick Accreditation at O’Brien Street Practice. The Rainbow Tick is a quality framework that assists health and human services organisations to show that they are safe, inclusive and affirming services and employers for the LGBTIQ community. CALHN Integrated Care is convening a working group to support this work. Learnings through this valuable process have and will continue to be incorporated into relocation planning. Our Medical Lead is continuing to work alongside the CDBD in advocating and coordinating HIV training/prescribing opportunities to support capacity building in primary health in addition to internal CALHN staff. We are hopeful this will benefit our community in the future by enhancing access to HIV care. Training planned for July 2025.
