The Simpson Prize for Cancer Research is a $5,000 Award recognises outstanding research undertaken within CALHN and will be presented for the best published paper by an early career researcher.
This award recognises outstanding early career research undertaken at the RAH or SA Pathology which has been peer reviewed and published in recognised journals and magazines.

The 2025 applications have now closed.
We expect the 2026 process to commence in May/June 2025.

Submitted papers must identify the Royal Adelaide Hospital and/or SA Pathology in the author’s affiliation, with the selection panel taking into consideration journal impact; number of authors; clinical relevance and scientific merit. The award recognises outstanding research undertaken on the RAH campus and will be presented for the best published paper by a RAH / SA Pathology early career researcher. Specifically -
- Eligible applicants must have published a paper as first author in a peer reviewed journal, within the last two years (July 2022 - June 2024).
- Online publications, and articles accepted for publication within the date range are eligible for consideration. Proof of acceptance will be required.
- Applicants must be RAH or SA Pathology employees.
- The applicant must have less than 8 years postdoctoral experience.
- The published paper must reflect work performed on the RAH campus.
- If more than one paper has been published, the applicant can submit further applications (one per application).
- A one-off payment of $5,000 will be made to the successful applicant/s (considered as taxable income).
- The Australian Taxation Office may consider the award as taxable income. It is recommended that if successful, the recipient seek professional advice regarding taxation treatment in their situation.
- To accept the prize, the winner will be required to complete the relevant finance forms and should contact the CALHN Research Services Grants Team.
- A brief Lay-Summary of the paper must be provided to CALHN Research Services via the online application for reporting and promotional purposes.
As the form cannot be saved and edited in another session, we recommend that you complete a draft of your response in Word and then cut and paste the final version into the application form prior to submitting.
