Clinical Trials Centre

Spacious and comfortable, the amenities include:
 

• nine fully equipped and sound-proofed clinic rooms
• patient observation area with six recliner chairs, a television and kitchenette
• large phlebotomy room
• reception area with television
• sample processing rooms
• wet room for processing biohazardous waste
• on-premises storage room
• patient toilets (including disability access with sample pass-through cabinets)
• additional secure sample processing, equipment and storage area on level 9 of the hospital.

To maintain accuracy and quality, all equipment is regularly calibrated and serviced, including:

• stadiometer
• x-ray light viewer
• bariatric scales
• tympanic and infrared digital thermometers
• ECG machine
• AED device
• Basic life support trolley
• glucometers
• biosafety cabinet
• sample processing bench
• centrifuges (ambient and refrigerated)
• sample storage refrigerators
• freezers (-20 and -80 degrees C).

When visitors or clinical trial participants arrive at the centre, they are greeted by our friendly staff. Staff are trained to provide information about the trials and educate about research at CALHN. The reception area includes comfortable visitor chairs, a TV and a health promotion stand. Private spaces are also available to interview patients and perform clinical trial activities.

The centre has been built with efficiency in mind to optimise patient flow, with the following in mind:

• direct access to the centre through an external hospital entrance
• the PPT chutes send patient samples directly to our onsite SA pathology lab for fast processing
• toilets have sample pass-through cabinets, providing a convenient discreet way to retrieve patient samples.

Keeping our facility, patients and staff safe and secure is very important.

Swipe cards control access to the facility and key areas. These are only used by staff working at the centre.

An intercom is used by patients and other staff when they arrive for appointments.

Bookings are required for all patients.
