Geriatric Evaluation and Management Unit
The Geriatric Evaluation and Management Unit (GEM) provides care for older South Australians facing age-related health challenges.
In the Geriatric Evaluation and Management Unit (GEM), consumers are cared for by a multidisciplinary team under the guidance of a specialist geriatrician with a focus on addressing the complex needs of aging.
The primary goal of GEM is to assess individual health concerns and establish a gentle rehabilitation program aimed at reducing disability and the potential need for residential care.
GEM services often support consumers who have experienced or are living with:
- the impact of falls
- dementia
- a variety of other medical conditions that impact daily living and self-care.
