Specialist Geriatric Unit
We care for patients who have behaviours and psychological symptoms of dementia.
The Specialist Geriatric Unit provides care for patients who have behaviours and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD).
As dementia progresses, many people experience behaviours and symptoms that go beyond memory loss.
These are known as behaviours and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD), and they vary widely from person to person. Common examples include agitation, aggression, wandering, restlessness, anxiety, depression, and mood swings.
The team in this unit, understand how to care for patients demonstrating these behaviours and use a patient centred approach to support a positive quality of life.
